furniture is finished just the way you want it.
As a convenience to our customers, we carry a selection of stain
colors, top coat, sandpaper and tack cloths. We offer the following
finishing “tips” to assist you in creating your masterpiece.
PREPAING THE SURFACE
Your furniture has been pre-sanded,
but most unfinished pieces need additional fine sanding before
finishing.
• Always sand in the direction of the wood grain, using
150 grit sandpaper.
• After sanding, wipe the piece clean with a tack cloth
to remove all sanding dust.
• If wood fill has been used to cover nicks or holes, be
sure residue has been sanded well. If not, the area around the
fill will not stain properly and may give a blotchy effect.
STAINING
• Stir the stain to be sure
it is thoroughly mixed.
• Do a test spot in an inconspicuous area so you can be
sure of the stain color before proceeding.
• Using a clean, lint free cloth, stain one surface at a
time. After you finish, go back over this surface with another
clean cloth to pick up any excess stain. If the stain is too light
you may need top apply a second coat before the top coat is applied.
Allow 4 to 6 hours for each coat of stain to dry.
APPLYING THE TOP COAT
• Once the stain has dried, use a clean cloth to apply a
coat of clear finish. (Stir the clear coat before applying) For
better results, apply the top coat in the same direction as the
wood grain.
• Allow top coat to dry - - Approximately 6 hours.
• Buff furniture lightly with 400 to 600 grit sandpaper.
Wipe clean with a tack cloth to remove dust.
• Apply two or three additional top coats following the
procedure outlined above, to properly seal your furniture.
After you’ve finished,
remember to pat yourself on the back for a job well done!
